Camilo Salazar obtained his law degree at the Universidad Externado de Colombia and has an LLM degree in International Business Law from the University of London/London School of Economics.

His legal expertise comprises international economic affairs: International Trade, Foreign Investment and International Business mainly, with an adequate knowledge of United States trade law and policy.

He has held different international functions such Deputy Director of the Colombian Government Trade Bureau, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Colombia in the United States and Deputy Chief and Chargé d-Affairs of the Embassy of Colombia in Malaysia. He is currently a law professor at the Sergio Arboleda University in Bogota.

Besides in the area of law he served as Assistant Opinion Editor to the Executive Director of El Espectador, a leading Colombian newspaper.
